OUR PLAN
Cooperation Between All Services |
We pushed for a support network around the young carer to allow cooperation through their educational establishment, social services and other support organisations with the family, to ensure the young carer's well being and health is being monitored, as well as support the person they are caring for.
|
Opportunities |
Young carers in Manchester do not have as many opportunities as they should have, and we pushed for this to change. Our Group has provided opportunities for our members.

Working towards the Young Carers Strategy |
We have influenced the Manchester City Council's Young Carers Strategy and with this campaign, we intend to apply pressure on the City Council and other organisations to ensure that the strategy is being implemented.
We will do this through regular feedback from young carers (and possibly their families) who have received:

What have we achieved so far?
Our award-winning campaign has impacted Early Help's offer for young carers by letting them know how young carers want to be interacted and supported in a better way compared to previously.
We have sat down with TYSS and told them their priority should be supporting and pressuring schools across Manchester to introduce young carers support networks, as most young carers attend high schools/colleges. Each support network may be different, some may have young carers groups like the Manchester Communication Academy where young carers meet up and relax, or just a young carer's lead at the school providing general support for young carers like William Hulme's Grammar School.
Either way, more needs to implemented to ensure support is given.
We regularly attended meetings with schools, youth groups and the Manchester City Council to ensure that more is being done to support young carers. We all recognise there's many young carers not getting the support, and by working together, we can hopefully drastically improve how we listen to young carers, connect with young carers by understanding their situation, and support them in any way possible.

We attended the 2017 Youth Buzz Awards and won the 'Making a Change' Award!
Our hard work hasn't gone unnoticed! We won an award for Making a Change with our Be Bothered campaign when we were the Manchester Young Carers Forum. We may have changed our name, but we are still working hard on this campaign that isn't quite finished yet!
